Banyule Art Salon 2025
So pleased to be part of Banyules biggest community art exhibition. This year the community was invited to create artworks that responded to, or are inspired by the Heidelberg school of art.
Embedded Exquisite Ephemeral
Much like the Heide School of Artists, my work is rooted in a practice of plein air observation, though instead of focusing on the wider view, I hone in on the close-up details. I am fascinated by the unique flora of Australia, specimens which are often considered ordinary to others, I find myself deeply drawn to. By spending time walking slowly, observing and foraging, I feel a closer connection and understanding of this land. I resonate with the Heide group of artists concept that, the effects we capture are only momentary, reflecting the ever-changing state of our environment. Through my process of foraging I developed a technique to curate them. My findings are embedded into clay, painted and photographed, recording their metamorphic changes over a few weeks. The resulting images I manipulate using an impressionist technique which blurs their recognizability, creating an alternative landscape that highlights intricate details and textures that might otherwise go unnoticed. This modern approach deviates from traditional artistic norm and captures fleeting and vulnerable moments in time.
