Lock Down

COME WALK WITH ME

I have had a lifelong sensitivity to the nature all around me, always looking closely and fascinated by the smallest details. I filled my pockets and kept small creatures as pets. I always knew that I was part of all that surrounded me. It has been the focus of my community work: to provoke curiosity, appreciate the beauty and deeper thinking about the environment. To connect with nature is to experience a deep resource.

I started a new body of work last year, creating images and painting with the nature I had foraged. But, I had not had time to pursue it, until Covid.

In my allotted times for exercise I have enjoyed collecting, developing and creating what will be an ongoing representation of my walks in this beautiful city and beyond. What I see as embedded, exquisite and ephemeral. Walking is more than exercise, it is an opportunity to also slow down and take in whatever is around you.

Parents are often so busy, rushing their children from one place/activity to another, hurrying them along.

A child once asked me “can I follow you?”…he wanted to walk with me,  to find all the things I had collected for himself. I think that the enforced restriction of movement has given families the opportunity to truly appreciate walking together and the world right on their doorstep, to slow to the child’s pace like no other time. This deeper engagement provokes spontaneous natural learning leading to unexpected investigation.
